아시아의 춤이라는 거대한 담론에서 출발한 이 프로젝트는 질문들로 가득하다. 아시아 춤의 특성은 무엇인가? 그것들은 어떻게 구분되거나 관계 맺을 수 있는가? 그것들을 몇 개의 범주로 분류할 수 있을까? 그것들은 어떻게 결합될 수 있을까? 아시아의 춤을 어떤 관점에서 접근해야 하는지는 여전히 불확실하다.

이러한 불확실성의 가능성 속에서 그녀가 주목하는 것은 개별 춤들이 만들어내는 감정 상태이다. 서로 다른 문화적 배경을 가진 이들이 배운 춤은 무용수 각자의 역사, 고유한 신체적 양상, 이미지들을 반영한다. 여기서 춤은 무엇을 표현하는가보다 수행자의 움직임에 초점을 맞추며, 그 움직임은 감각을 통해 감정을 발생시킨다. 이렇게 발생한 감정은 신체적으로 또는 심리적으로 공유되며, 서로 다른 상태에 놓인 춤들을 연결한다.

Beginning with the broad discourse of dance in Asia, this project is filled with questions. What characterizes dances in Asia? How can they be distinguished from or related to one another? Can they be classified into a few categories? How can they be combined? The perspective from which to approach dance in Asia remains uncertain.

Within the possibilities opened by this uncertainty, she focuses on the emotional states generated by individual dances. The dances learned by people from different cultural backgrounds reflect each dancer’s history, distinctive physical qualities, and imagery. Here, the focus is on the performer’s movement rather than what the dance expresses, and that movement generates emotion through sensation. The emotions that arise are shared physically or psychologically, connecting dances that exist in different states.
